Millside Blue Texel Attend Highland Sheep 2013
Last week we attended NSA Highland Sheep 2013 organised by NSA Scotland and held at Dingwall Auction Mart 20 miles north of Inverness .
The event was well attended by sheep farmers and other interested parties, many who had travelled long distances to be at the event.
We felt that this would be an ideal opportunity to show people from the North of Scotland and the Islands our Blue Texel Sheep and their Crosses.
This certainly proved to be the case with a lot of interest in the sheep on our stand which comprised 3 Registered Shearling Rams, 3 Registered Shearling Ewes and 2 outstanding Blue Texel Sired Ewe Hoggs.
There were a lot of enquiries as to how well the breed would cross with the traditional type of ewes common to the area – i.e. the North Country Cheviot Hill Type and the Scottish Blackface with many people wondering where they could perhaps buy a ram.
Hopefully our 450 mile round trip will prove to be worthwhile – we certainly think with the great interest in the breed shown on the day that our efforts will be worthwhile and that many commercial flockmasters will think hard about using a Blue Texel.
